When you are playing against someone who just started to play poker online, they are more than likely going to play with two different styles: They are either going to play every hand and call all the way with any draw or they are going to play only strong starting hands and just check call you all the way even if they have the nuts!

At online poker secrets, we recommend STRONGLY: Figure out what kind of newbie you are playing! Figure what kind of player they are and play their kind of poker. If you bet into them and they call and call and then show the nuts on the river you know that next time you bet into them and they call you should be checking it down unless you have the nuts! A lot of the time, a player like this will still call you down with a straight on a flush board, or 2 pair on a straight board – so profiting off these players can be easy!

Just a little tip to keep you from going on tilt in a situation that can be avoided.

When we all lose a big hand in poker we all react differently.

Some people go on mad tilt and just keep chasing their lost money and keep losing. I think that the players that can keep their cool or at least calm down before returning to their game are the players that will continue to be profitable over the long run. Some players that I play with don’t react to a big loss knowing that if they just keep playing their game they will get their money back.

A great online poker secret would be that if you feel like you are steaming in any way: take a walk, get a drink, play your PS3, do anything that will take your mind off the poker game for a bit so that you can refocus and refuel!

We all will get steamed at some point or another when playing online poker. But learn to control how often you get upset. When you are getting frustrated every time that someone sucks out or you lose your set to a straight etc. – you may not realize it, but it is affecting your game.

I constantly hear poker players saying “It doesnt affect my game” yet the next 3 hands they are pushing preflop with rubbish, trying to say they are just continuing their aggression, lol.

Train yourself not to get upset over the small things that are always going to continue to happen in poker. Find what makes you calm, be it music, tv, meditation, smoking, drinking, getting away from the computer – whatever it is – find it and stick to it. There is nothing possitive that will come out of your constant outbursts regarding the idiocies of every day poker!
