Don’t play over-eager

If you arrive in a game, online OR offline, and you are over-eager to play poker - this is generally going to affect the way you play.  You want to get into the game, and you want to start playing – but if your hands are not good, you may find yourself wanting to play them just to get into the game.  If your hands are ok, you may find yourself over playing them.  And if your hands are great, you may find yourself not getting the value you need out of your hands!

A great online poker secret would have to be, play when you are calm, relaxed, in a zone, and ready to focus.

Not everything has to be now…

Poker is not a game about Right Now, even though the ability to win right now is a possibility.  The biggest trap in Online Poker would have to be the chance to have immidiate profit at the instant that you want to play.

The reality is, your impatience to win Now can be a hinderance to your game.  Desperation isnt the way to play poker.  Poker is a game of patience and a game of time, so keep in your head that your wins will come over time, and they will.

Dont play too fast…

Sometimes when we play poker, we get into a rhythm and everything is going our way.

A great online poker secret to remember is: You have to be ready to slow down when your run is ending or you will quickly lose what you just won!

When the cards slow down in your poker game, ask yourself “am I playing poorly” or “why am I losing” or “is it time to leave yet”. Look at what hands you are starting to play, it seems like when we all win a couple of hands its effortless and we start to play marginal hands.

Why Raise?

Have you ever heard the phrase “there is more than one way to win the pot”?  While I do believe in this, I also believe that you should have a reason for your action.

If you are going to play poker and do it to make money you should not call, bet or raise without a reason for doing so. I think that the game of Texas Hold’em Poker is getting to the point where there are many good poker players that know how to play the game well. If you are asking yourself why this post is called what it is, it is just a question to ask yourself the next time you are playing poker and you are thinking of raising, you should always have an answer.
