Your past is not your edge

Just because you did well in online poker at one point, doesnt mean that you will continue to do so.  Poker is an ongoing game and you should be continuously learning.  Focus on how good you are today, not how good you were yesterday.

Leave when you should leave!

When everything in poker is going against you, it’s time to leave the table.  Just because you were having a good run doesnt mean that the run will continue!  When you see the cards begin to fail you, leave them behind!

Bet Bet Bet Bet Bet

“He who soars not suffers no fall.” – Zen proverb

Players tend to bet less when they have good cards and play bad cards when they should be folding.  In online poker, you should be doing the absolute opposite!  When you have good cards, BET THEM – dont think along the lines of getting callers, as you are opening up yourself to more failure.

Don’t keep calling…

“Most important thing….is premium hands….If a bet’s good enough to call, you’re in there raising.  Tight but aggressive.” – Kevin Canty, Rounders

Calling bets and never raising is not the way to win the war.  You need to find the opportunities to play a tight aggressive game, and the best way to do it is use the strategy: If its good enough to call, its good enough to raise.

The prospect of harm

“What discourages opponents from coming is the prospect of harm” – Sun Tzu

Poker is not a gentlemens game anymore, it has become a war between opponents.  This doesnt mean you have to insult or deface your opponents, but it does mean that you are in battle for their chips!  Show that you are there for battle and you will see them begin to fall.  Opponents will either choose to attack at the wrong times, or will back off from any confrontation with you.
